You said I was never gonna learn

OK, quick rant before blogger has an outage.
Am I the only one who thinks it's rude to answer your cell when you're out to eat with someone?
Also, anyone remember this question I posted back in November? 58% of the population wished they had this in their car, what is it? It's a microwave

Hmm, I think it can be rude, depending on the situation. In any dining situation, I think it's always the polite thing to put the phone on silent and not answer it or just turn it off. In some situations though, it's not POLITE to answer the phone, but it's not necessarily rude either. Examples:

Date dinner: don't answer
Business dinner: don't answer
Dinner with good friends or relatives you haven't seen in awhie: don't answer
Casual dinner with parents: eh, I might answer
Informal dinner with a lot of people, not a business setting, just random conversation with various people: not that bad to answer

At any rate, I think it's okay to look at the phone to see who's calling.

Yeah, it's rude. If you're on a date, your attention should be on your date, period.

I remember one time I was having breakfast out with Female Offspring #1 and I decided to check my voice msgs while we waited for our food to arrive, she yanked the phone out of my hand and said, "Mom, that's RUDE!" Never done it since.

It wasn't a date, just a casual dinner with a friend. First it was text messages, which I don't mind because then they were still listening to me, but when they picked up the phone when I'm in the middle of a sentence.
I always have my phone on the table, just because I don't like to carry a purse and then it's in my pocket and uncomfortable to sit on, but if it rings there's this handy little button where you can turn off the ringer, which I use a lot.
