A dancing elephant

I promised myself I wouldn't spend any more money on stuff I didn't need this week, but I had a hat to return to Kohl's and my bus pass expired today, so I went to Kohl's and TJ Maxx.
I'm impressed with Kohl's return policy, I didn't have a receipt and it was after 30 days, though the customer service lady told me, their computer keeps the ISBN's for at least 4 years. I wasn't impressed with their pricing for something. I got store credit for about $13, so I wanted to spend about that, or a little less. I was looking at their Valentine's display, and trying to figure out which bag of chocolates I wanted to purchase, there weren't price tags on them, only a listing on their electronic screen. So, I picked up one that was more than I thought. I still ended up getting a bag of chocolates, but still, the checkout lady looked at me like I was stupid.
They had their Christmas ornaments at 70% off, which is another reason I'm not a fan of them. They still had Christmas stuff and none of it was more than 75% off, apparently they're not really wanting to get rid of it.
The elephant has a little sign that says "baby's first Christmas", I pulled it out of it's hand. There was another sea angel that had a crab, but she only had one wing.
I had to walk by TJ Maxx to get back to the bus stop, so I went in there as well. They had a ton of stuff on clearance from the holiday season, unfortunately it was mostly all food, I was hoping for more physical stuff:
So far, I've tried all the things in the top row and the first item on the second row. The first ones are kinda like tiny rice cakes with a white chocolate drizzle, they're pretty good. The second ones seem to be like crackers with sugar on top, also good. The third ones are basically just chips, I'll be taking those to work tomorrow. The cookie brittle is wicked good, it's very rich like it says.
Chocolate, cards, socks, magnetic bookmarks.
Again, food, the fruit medley was the only thing I picked up for full price, it was $4.99, I probably shouldn't have gotten it. Nothing else was priced over $2. The cards have a cactus that has embroidery around it, they had another pack missing envelopes, which doesn't really matter because I have envelopes. My plan is to put a different sentiment over the 'looking sharp'. The socks were 30 cents, I figured even if they didn't fit, it was only 30 cents. I'm having a hard time passing up cheap magnetic bookmarks, these are fast food ones. I picked up fast food stickers last time, I plan to make paper clips with them. I'm thinking I need to do a food pocket letter or art piece.
I have to go to Dollar Tree on Friday, and I think that will be my last shopping trip for awhile, I spent over $200 on stuff I didn't need this month (maybe I can blame it on Hobby Lobby's sale), so I really need to cut back. I feel like I keep saying that and don't do anything about it.

Hobby Lobby Clearance

So, everyone's been doing hauls on YouTube and Facebook showing what they've picked up at Hobby Lobby's 75% off clearance event. Apparently they are making room for new stuff and a bunch of stuff in the paper crafting section is marked down 75% off. Here's what I picked up:
They had their His & Hers wedding stuff 50% off, so I picked up some hearts to use in a Valentine's Day project.
A lot of the stickers were priced $1, originally $3.99. I've been doing a lot of birthday explosion boxes lately, so I picked up some birthday stickers. The first set is more of a Valentine's sticker pack. I picked up some cactus paperclips. I picked up the pineapple and unicorn acrylic pieces, not sure what I'll do with those, but they were cute. The trees I wanted, but Jolee's stickers are so expensive and don't go on sale much, so I picked up a few of those. I love the shaker tags. I like coffee themed stuff even though I don't like coffee. That sticker sheet with the typewriter, someone gave me and I have been hoarding it. The pinwheels I thought I'd use for 4th of July. I love the flowers in jar stickers.
Again with the coffee related stuff. I liked the charms with the envelopes. I also couldn't pass up the tiny cards, thought they'd work on a pocket letter. I saw someone else pick up these tags and the Tim Holtz washi, can you believe it was $10 originally?
More Jolee's stickers, I picked up the "homegrown" paper pack mostly for the jar ephemera. I really liked the 12 days of Christmas stickers and the watercolor butterflies. You can see a sheet of Valentine stickers. I picked up the Carpe Diem packs for the cute stickers, I plan to cut the ladies out of the folder pockets.
A couple more Valentine's items and some flowers.
Mostly what I pick up when I go to Hobby Lobby is stickers, a lot of the people's hauls I saw they were so excited to get dies on sale. I may have spent less because I don't use dies. The highest single priced item I picked up was $4.00, and it was originally priced $16. I admit, I didn't look at regular prices, I just walked up and down the aisles looking for that yellow clearance sticker and looked at the price on that. I had more stuff, but stopped and pondered if I'd actually use them, or if I was just picking stuff up because I saw other people getting it.
I went to a couple other stores in the strip mall that Hobby Lobby is in. I stopped at the Salvation Army and was ready to pay, but no one was at the register, so I put all my stuff back and left. Last stop was JoAnn's and I just don't know why I visit them. Mine has drastically reduced their papercrafting section to focus on fabric again. I'm wondering if it's because there's no other fabric store here and they're almost right next to Hobby Lobby. Anywho, I was hoping their Valentine's Day stuff was marked down, but it wasn't, they barely had anything out. There were a couple things I was interested in, but they were priced at $3, when I could get about the same thing at the Target dollar spot for a buck. I found a couple things:
woodland creatures bags, and a banner kit. I've been on the hunt for the woodland creatures washi, but I didn't find any.
I've started saving my $1 bills and my change for garage sale season. I know I spent more money on purchases last year because of YouTube and people's hauls on Facebook. Though lately, I haven't felt bad about my purchases, even though they haven't been that cheap lately. I had put in an order on Amazon on the 13th and it still hadn't shipped by yesterday, so I cancelled it. It was a book, a calendar and some duck tape, it shouldn't take almost a month to get here. I've also decided I'm done ordering from Amazon. I'm also done shopping on Hollar, but I will continue to buy the Peachy Cheap grab bags, I haven't used much from them, but I love the excitement of getting them.

Thursday, January 25, 2018

Not much exciting has happened since last Friday. I was so excited to be done at the bookstore. I do enjoy working there, but working 3 jobs at a time is very tiring. And I basically do nothing other than get up, go to work, come home, go to bed and repeat.
Saturday, I opened at the library, had a few hours downtime and then worked a basketball game that night. Sunday, I worked a wrestling match, had a few hours downtime where I did my laundry and went to Red Lobster for dinner with my parents.
Monday, I got tired of demanding people, mostly my mother, but people.
Tuesday, I basically took a break from the world. I turned off my phone and worked on art stuff and watched TV. I had a great day until I turned my phone back on and realized my mother had a temper tantrum because the world didn't go her way. She does this with me every now and then, if I don't do exactly as she asks for any reason, she says something rude and stops talking to me. I decided if she couldn't act like an adult, I don't want to deal with her. I'm tired of being the adult or the bigger person, not only with her, but in Facebook things, too.
Wednesday, I opened at the library, I was going to return a hat, but of course left the hat home, I decided to go shopping anyway for some retail therapy.
First stop, Walmart:
Squeesh-yum, Mineez, glitter, stickers, squirt toys, blind bags.
I put the squirt toys and the Tsum Tsum blind bags in my Advent Calendar. I have finally filled it up, so every other fun thing I get to enjoy. I wish I knew why I was so annoyed with the world lately, I want to say this time it's because I haven't been able to enjoy the fun things I've bought, but I know it's not true. The Squeesh-yum is one of those squishy things, it's shaped like a piece of toast with a face and an ear dipped in chocolate, it was $3. The Mineez were $1.50, the glitter was $0.50 each. The stickers were $2.97, I thought they'd work if I had more birthday explosion boxes to make. I found these cute little squirt toys in the toy aisle, they were $1.97 each. The blind bags were all $1.
The thing in the background is a burn-out top, it was $5. The bath fizzies turned out to be $3. The underwear was $10, and I needed the tape it was $6. I spent a grand total of $42, it was mostly because of the things in this picture.
I was going to go to TJ Maxx as well, but decided I was happy with my purchases from Walmart and went back home. I stopped to mail a Valentine's pocket letter and went to the grocery store on the way home.
Today, I went to our downtown area for some dollar days deals. I didn't find many.
First stop, HyVee Drug:
colorable decal $1.25, a couple snowmen at $0.50, chai $11, eos lip balm $1.99, earrings $1, and a cute little crystal bird for $2.29. I bought the the decal and snowmen for future swaps. I needed the chai for the mornings I open at the library. I couldn't pass up the deal on the eos and earrings. I picked up the bird for a friend's birthday gift.
Next stop:
These picks were marked at $0.25 and apparently they were half off of that. I plan to break off the sticks and use them on explosion boxes. I'm tempted to go back and buy all the rest of the Happy Birthday ones they had.
I really wanted some exciting Valentine's Day stuff but I didn't find anything. Not many stores even had Valentine's Day stuff. I also realize that our downtown is made up of small independent retailers, but I just don't feel like paying the higher prices these days.
There were also a couple times I almost bought something for a friend, but I am so tired of being the person that buys for other people and rarely gets anything in return. I know it's part of my personality, but I'm tired of giving so much lately, I'm tired of what feels like one-sided relationships, where people only want to hang out when it's convenient for them, not that they care about how I feel.

Hodgepodge Vol 338

It's Hodgepodge time again. Head on over to Joyce's blog to see what other people answered.

1. January 24th is National Compliment Day. Is it easy or not so easy for you to accept a compliment? Share a recent compliment you've given or received.
I'm trying harder to give and receive compliments. I know how great it feels to get a compliment so when I see someone who looks cute, I try to give them a compliment. I honestly don't know the last time I got or gave one.
2. Ten little things you are loving right now.
Time for me, Chai tea lattes, unicorns, pretzels in chocolate,
I'll have to think about this more and update tonight.3. Would people describe you as a positive person? Do you see yourself that way? I readhere  a list/description of eight things positive people do differently-
Positive people find something to look forward to every day, they celebrate the small stuff, they're kind, they stay busy, accept responsibility for their actions, forgive themselves, know when to move on, and resist comparisons
Which action on the list would you say you do regularly? Which action could you add to your life to give you a more positive outlook? If you're a positive person, what's something you do regularly that's not on the list?
I think of myself more of a realist. I do accept responsibility for my actions, that's what annoys me the most in the world lately, people have excuses for everything, but it seems rarely do they take responsibility for their actions. I think finding something to look forward to everyday, I know that would give me a more positive outlook.
4. Homemade chicken soup, beef stew, or a bowl of chili...what's your pleasure on a cold winter's day?
I like clam chowder. I haven't had any in a long while, but that is my favorite thing to eat on a cold winter's day
5. The best part of my day is....
Today is Tuesday, it's my first day off in about a week and I'm pretty much ignoring the world. I'm tired of demanding people. If you're saying the best part of my normal day, is probably when I get home from work and get away from people.
6.  Insert your own random thought here.
Like I said it's my first day off in awhile. I have hit the end of my 2.5 week run of working 3 jobs. I'm tired of it. I wish I had a job that made it so I didn't have to do this twice a year. I'm getting too old for it.

It's the end of the week...almost

And I am ready for it. This week was only a 41 hour week compared to last week that was a 52 hour week. I was thinking it was less, apparently when I'm really tired my brain doesn't work as well.
Thursday was a 12 hour day, basically I got up, went to work, came home went to bed. Today I only had to work 4 hours and the temperatures were in the 40s. It was my last day of work at the bookstore, so I went shopping. My first stop was Walmart:
Choco waffle chips ($2.50), gummy minions ($1.50), marshmallow lollipop ($1), which technically isn't a lollipop, it's just a marshmallow on a stick. I have already eaten the waffle chips and they were good, but I'm not sure they were $2.50 good, also the minion gummies taste like fruit punch, they are soo good. Side note: it was lunchtime, and I hadn't had lunch yet.
Minion blind ball ($1), double stick tape ($5.84), duck tape ($1), stuffed heart ($0.97), Disney metal toys ($2), owl sticky notes ($0.97), Hello Kitty blind bag ($1), Squish-dee blind bag ($1.50).
I tell myself I have to pick up a pack of double stick tape everytime I go to Walmart, I have run out in the past, so this rule has saved me lately. I put the minion, hello kitty and squish-dee blind bags as well as the Disney toys in my Advent calendar for December, and I want to open it all right now. I had a chocolate stuffed strawberry in my basket to buy as well, but it was $2.98 and the heart was only $0.97, plus it's green and has glasses. I feel every time I pick up duck tape from the clearance aisle, it's never marked down, this was marked at $1, but rang up at $3.97, this is the third time this has happened at both the Walmarts here. When I went to get my money back, they had to approve it, that annoyed me, it was their fault it wasn't in the system correctly and now I have to wait for you to make sure it's ok.
Here, the Target, Walmart and Dollar Tree are very close, so I try to go to them all at once. So, my second stop was Target, I had gift cards from Christmas, so technically everything was free.
dark chocolate pretzel sea salt bark thins ($4), minion marshmallow pop ($1), fries before guys marshmallows ($1.99), Sparkling Ice water 3 bottles ($0.85 each), Merci chocolate ($4.99), Oreo bars ($0.89 each). The bark thins were my friends fault, we were in the chocolate aisle and the bigger bag was the same price as the smaller bag, so I bought one (and I was hungry and there was pretzels). I seem to really be liking marshmallows lately, so I picked up the minion marshmallow and the 'french fries' marshmallows. I had the cartwheel savings for the sparkling ice, so I picked up a few of those. I thought I had a cartwheel for the merci, I didn't but the holiday ones are always cheaper than the ones in the regular aisle. I love the oreo bars.
unicorn bandaids ($1), gift bags ($3), Spritz chipboard stickers ($4.99), pocket pages ($4.99). I love decorated bandaids, I don't like band aids, so if I have to wear them they might as well be fun. I love these gift bags, there were 8 for $3, four designs, two of each. I totally jumped on the bandwagon for the chipboard stickers. And the whole reason I went was to get the pocket pages, I was supposed to get them last time I went.
Last stop was Dollar Tree:
Love bug, glitter sticker, hand cream, foam shamrocks, lip balm, card. I have the pink version of this bug already, and when I'm stressed I apparently need to buy stuffed animals, so I might as well get the cheap ones. Saw these glitter stickers, they are soo cute (there's a better picture down below), I love these hand creams, I don't use hand cream, but I needed a hand cream/lotion and a lip balm for a swap. Someone sent me one of those foam shamrocks in a swap and I used it on a tag and was so bummed I used it. I love the hot air balloons on this card, I realized I have a Valentine's gift bag with hot air balloons and thought I should use them on a pocket letter.
Squeesh yum minis, white chocolate bear, glitter stickers. I've seen people haul these, and I put these in my advent calendar as well.
Here's a better look at those stickers:
I hadn't seen anyone haul them, and they are wicked cute. I was hoping to find more of those name brand stickers, but I certainly don't need more stickers. And these were hidden in the check out aisle.
I know I don't need to be shopping, but when all I do is work, I need the release of shopping. I'm thinking of going to our other walmart and TJ maxx this weekend, I also have to return something to Kohls as well.
Tomorrow, I still have 9 hours of work, but I have a nice 4 hour break in between.

Tuesday, January 16, 2018

I am so tired of cold. The high today was 5. When I got up it was -5 with a windchill of -28. Yesterday my mother told me it was 27 in Alaska. Tomorrow the high is in the 20's and we finish the week in the 40's, I'd be happy if we stayed in the 20's-teens.
I'm also tired of standing, last week I worked 52 hours, most of those on my feet. Yesterday, someone yelled at me, I don't get paid enough for that. I had a pretty nice weekend, I got home early on Saturday, had Sunday off, I didn't even go outside on Sunday. Monday the high was -1, that's not a high to me. It was very hard to motivate myself to go outside. It was hard to get up this morning and go outside. But, I had something cool waiting for me when I got home from work. Last week I ordered some handmade pumpkins from Kimberly Laws.
 Close-ups:
How cute is that doily pieces and the yo yo? It's a very light green fabric.
I love that beaded flower on the right.
Loving the doily on the top
The stem on this one is covered in a beaded piece. The actual pumpkin is made out of a mesh with black sequin leaves all over it.
This one has some shiny pearlized leaves and a stick pin on it.
There was also this grouping of three tiny ones, the two back ones are velvety.

Long Week

And it has felt very long. Basically, all I've done is get up, go to work, come home, go to bed, repeat.
Sunday was the start of a new Screw it and do it challenge on one of my facebook groups, here's Sunday's creation:
I wanted to sign up this time around to make myself create something even though I was wicked busy. This one is in my notebook.
That's all I did on Monday. I worked an 11 hour day.
Here's Monday's SI&DI creation:
This is another page of my notebook.
Tuesday, I didn't work until noon, it was nice to sleep in but I misjudged my timeline and had barely any time to eat lunch, this was an 8 hour day.
Here's Tuesdays SI&DI creation:
Another page of my notebook.
Wednesday: I opened at the library, went to the post office to mail swaps, that I don't remember what they were (that's pretty sad). I went grocery shopping on the way home and had to work a basketball game that night. My feet just hurt so much at the game, I was glad to be at a slower door. This was a 9 hour day.
Here's Wednesday's SI&DI creation:
This one is a decorated vellum bag.
Thursday, I did the same thing as Monday. This was my longest, a 12 hour day. Thankfully, I got to sit a lot at the library that night. Weird thing was that my feet didn't hurt near as much as they did on Wednesday. We had some interesting weather, they predicted blizzard like conditions. We got lots of wind, some heavy snow periods and very cold temperatures, which was a big 180 from earlier in the week when we hit 44.
Here's Thursdays SI&DI creation:
This one is a mini loaded bag I made for a swap.
Friday was another shorter day with only 9 hours. I opened my mail that I received on Thursday, year-round paper clips:
 February calendar tag:
 Alphabet tags:
I stopped off at the grocery store to get some pickles and milk. I took a bath and used up a LUSH bath bomb someone gave me for Christmas, I wasn't impressed. I've decided I just need to accept the fact that people are not going to ask if you use bath stuff, beauty stuff, planner stuff, religious stuff and so much other stuff before sending it to you in a swap and I just need to accept it and be happy that they sent me something.
I also created for the SI&DI challenge:
This will probably become a card. It's just a single paper right now.
I spent the rest of the night watching ER and catching up on the computer.
Saturday: I was scheduled to work 10-4 at the bookstore. I again appreciated being able to sleep in. I got to the store a little early, so I shopped:
I thought that small canvas would be fun to send to a crafter, I think that's how we all feel about our washi tape. I wanted some chocolate, so I picked up the 'chocolate' rocks. I saw this little book on one of their displays. Basically it's a book of quotes and neat artwork. I kinda want to cut it up and use it for an inspirational explosion box.
It was wicked slow and then the lights started going off (apparently someone accidentally flipped a switch they shouldn't have). I went to take my lunch break at 12:15, and my boss said I could just go home because it was so slow, so I went to Hobby Lobby to spend some money.
I saw some cool displays throughout, cactus:
 flowery:
 unicorns:
I also saw these sticker books, they kinda look like Paper Studio's version of the Mambi sticker books, they were $20 each.
I saw on one of my facebook groups that it's national sticker book and Hobby Lobby had their stickers at 40% off. There were a couple interested me, but I thought I'd wait until their paper studio stuff was 50% off, not that I need more of anything.
Here's what I picked up:
Some tiny zip top bags, rosette stickers, pack of 50 sheets of 8.5x11 paper, some retro stickers, a couple of sticker books.
I needed the bags for goodies, I just liked the rosettes. I don't need more paper, but I loved the top paper. There were 50 sheets, 48 were originally priced at 44 cents and two at 59 cents, so great deal, but I really have to stop buying paper and stickers. I love the retro looking stickers.
This is the Months of the year sticker book:
I love the images on this.
And the 100% girl sticker book:
The images on this one match the Pink Parisian paper pad, sadly the colors do not.
White thicker stickers, a snail, a couple rolls of Finding Nemo duck tape (these were marked at $1, from $6.99. I always need duct tape), decorative bags, tags, cupcake pics, washi.
I like the thicker phrases, and fell in love with the snail. I saw people hauling the bag set and the washi set, so I picked them up, I don't think the bags have to be for Valentines day. Love the flamingos on the tags. I thought the heart pics would be cute as ephemera.
Burlap hearts, monster stickers, gem hearts, stickers, foam hearts, felt stickers.
The Valentine's stuff was 40% off as well. I may have gone a little overboard, but I really like everything I bought and will probably use it all. I picked up the foam hearts because I have to make a heart shaped flip book, I don't have any reasons for the rest of it.
Here's today's SI&DI creation:
 Another decorated vellum bag.
I also finished up the mini loaded bag:
I'm trying to catch up on YouTube videos, but that rarely happens without watching all day. I also have a book I need to finish by next Wednesday. I was originally scheduled to work tomorrow, but my boss at the bookstore said they were over scheduled, so she took me off. I know I shouldn't be happy about getting hours cut, but I need a day off, I've been working over a week without one. I forget every time to schedule a day for myself.

It's Sunday

Sunday: Today was my shortest workday for the week. I worked a couple hours at the wrestling meet, though it felt way longer than two hours it was so dead. It's my usual laundry day, I chose to wait until I got home from work to start. I tried to catch up on Youtube this morning, and did my Screw it and Do It challenge for one of my facebook groups. We have to craft for 10 minutes, I wanted to make sure I did it this time because I'll be so busy for the next two weeks:
I'm seriously thinking about moving now. Just something that happened at work makes me seriously think about moving. I kinda wishing I was dating some guy who got a job somewhere else and I chose to move and go with him, that would make it much easier.
It was gorgeous out today (compared to the last two weeks of double digit below zero days) we hit 34. So, I decided to walk home from the match. One of my co-workers was doing the same thing, so I walked along with her until she had to turn. And then my feet started hurting and I got tired, so I rode the bus home, I think I walked about half way home. I was a little apprehensive to walk home. Last time I did, was back in August after a long day at the bookstore and just missing my bus. I got home and had spotty vision as well as tingly arms up to my biceps. I was kinda scared that would happen again. I stopped off to get some pop and some chai for tomorrow morning on my way home. I started my laundry and did the above piece.
My landlord got a new washer and dryer a few weeks ago. I've been noticing white residue on my black clothing pieces when I'm taking them out of the washer. I've never put them in to the dryer with the residue, I just run them through the wash one more time before drying them. When I googled the issue, apparently it's an issue of too much detergent in new machines and not enough rinsing. I have less than 10 tide pods left over, so I guess I'll be making sure I push the extra rinse button until I finish them up. I just hate having to wait so long for the laundry to be done. I started at 3:30 today and finished at 8:30 for two loads of laundry.
I spent the rest of my day reading and trying to catch up on youtube. I usually don't catch up on youtube at RUSH time.

weird week

I might be going back to weekly posts. One of my New Year's resolutions, or hopes was to buy less stuff and use more of what I have. I was doing rather well, until today, we'll get to that.
Sunday: my coat broke, some of the teeth on the zipper broke off. It's been wicked cold, negative double digits mostly. So, having that happen as I was rushing out the door to work, didn't help. I wore my 30 degree winter coat with my roommate's coat on top of it. Work was pretty slow, not sure if it was the cold or the holiday. I did order a new coat that night.
Monday: I didn't go anywhere, or do anything. I probably sat on my butt watching YouTube and movies all day.
Tuesday: my mother dropped off an old winter coat to tide me over until the new coat came in. I didn't actually go outside except to pick up that coat. Again, sat on my butt and watched the TV all day. I finished a couple swaps to mail out on Wednesday.
Year round tags:
Year round paper clips:
And I got a winter pocket letter in the mail:
Wednesday: I opened at the library, ran my errands of post office and grocery shopping. I spent a ton when I had a list of stuff for my 3rd job and some stuff that was on sale.
I saw this display at the store and was interested, just not in spending $4 on them:
 Don't they just look yummy?
Thursday: My first day at my third job, I had some training, came home had lunch, and then went to the library for the night. I was wicked tired and my feet really hurt by the time I got home.
Friday: I had to work all day at the bookstore.
Today: I was supposed to work 10-4, but it was pretty dead, so they sent me home shortly after 2.
I found a holiday card in my mailbox:
I also gave in and spent some money. They had me on returns at the bookstore, which means I stand in the computer section and apparently they sell movies over there. So I was staring at them and bought a few. I picked up the new Robocop on DVD for $3.99, I also picked up Sabotage and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation on Blu-ray for $6.99. I bought a couple spiral bound notebooks and a hoodie. I spent about $55. I realized when I got home, I got the wrong Mission Impossible, I saw Jeremy Renner on the cover and thought it was Ghost Protocol, I'm gonna see if I can return it on Monday, if not, I'm ok with it.
I also finished a few projects. This one is probably a baby gift:
 A February calendar tag:
 And some alphabet tags:
My plan is to watch some ER, take a shower, eat supper and read some before bed. We'll see if it actually happens.
