New Buys

So, here's what I bought at the Art Fair on Sunday:
A plastic ladybug for $1.00
A very blue Angel Maget made by Lisa Victoria for $4.00
A dragon magnet also made by Lisa Victoria (click link above), for $4.00
A frog sticker also made by Lisa Victoria (click link above) for $1.50. I loved the designs at this booth, the only thing that bothered me was my 3 purchases came to $9.50, but neither of the people at the booth had any quarters. I'd say they were a little unprepared.
A plastic turtle, made by the same people who made the ladybug above, but since they didn't give me a business card, I have no idea who they are. They make their creations out of 2 liter pop bottles and they're really cute, last year I bought a couple fish, I'll post those later in the week. The turtle was $3.00
And this cute white bowl made by Steve Coburn, it cost $6.00 plus tax.

I spent about $25.00 with food and art purchases. It's interesting to see who charges tax and who doesn't, I know you're supposed to, but I also know that people just starting out either don't know that or haven't made enough to need to charge tax.

Garage Salen

So, yesterday, I talked my friend Karli, into hitting a few garage sales. The first one we went to was mostly kids stuff, the 2nd one was mostly antiques, and the woman running it sure liked to price things at $10. I found a bag (gallon size) of buttons, but she wanted $15 for it, that was a little pricey for me. I did find a couple things though:
This tiny little pale pink jar with a brass lip, is about 2 1/4 inches. It was $.75
This little sundae cup(?), is about 3 inches tall was marked free, a perfect price I thought.
This doily is about 8 inches in diameter, it was $.25
So, that was $1.00 at that sale.

The next sale we went to had tons of DVDs and CDs, plus lots of antique items.

I found this jar full of vintage buttons for $.25
The DVD was $3.00
That's $3.25 at that sale.

The next sale we went to wasn't very exciting. Karli had to go home and I had one more sale I wanted to stop at. I had gone to a sale at the same address earlier in the summer and found some very cute jewelry.
This time, I found this horse for $2.00, I had this same horse when I was a kid, unfortunately I played a bit too much with it, and the feet, the stirrups and his ears broke off. I still have the horse, so it's nice to have them both together.
I also found this cute little cherry pin, that's about 2 inches tall for $.25
And this teacup for $.50. It's very cute, there's a flower on one side.
And a flower on the other side
And a flower inside, but apparently I forgot that picture. Anyways, it measures a little over 2.5 inches tall and a little over 4 inches wide including the handle.
So, that was $2.75 at that sale, with a grand total of $7.00 spent on Friday.
Today (or more like yesterday, as I'm having this posted on Sunday), my mom and I hit a couple sales. The first one had a lot of antiques.
I found this cute little cup and saucer for $.75, the cup has 3 tiny feet on the bottom and measures 2 1/4 inches tall and 3 inches wide including the handle. The plate measures about 4 1/4 inches wide. They're souveneirs from New Orleans.
I also found this very tarnished silver bowl for $1.00. Remember this post, where I bought that silver bowl. I was looking at them today, and they are the exact same bowl, only one is really tarnished and one isn't.
I found this handkerchief for $.75
I also found these cute items. There's a tobacco coupon for $.25, a metal button with blue gems for $.25, 5 turquoise colored plastic buttons for $.5o, and a little owl pin for $.25
I also found these cute little bouncy balls for Christmas, my mom collects Santas, and I collect snowmen, for $.25
I also found some cute little heart boxes (which I also forgot the picture for) for $.50. And some cookies for $.40 each, I bought 3, they've been eaten.
That's a total of $5.45 for today.
Tomorrow (or more like today, since I'm posting this on Sunday), my mom, aunt and I are going to a local art festival. I'll show what I buy later.

Happy Pink Saturday

I thought of this last week (and of course forgot about it until now, 11 pm Friday night), so I hope it works for today.
Here are a couple pink lit photos from the luau my family attended when we were in Hawaii this past January. Enjoy!
And if you're interested in seeing more Pink items, head on over to Beverly's.
I always appreciate comments, and if you want to enter my Halloween giveaway, go here.

Is it the weekend yet?

OK, this is a warning, I'm venting in this post. But, if you don't want to read about me venting, you can look at the pictures of this squirrel I took when I was in Okoboji.
So, today has sucked so far. My boyfriend calls me this morning and proceeds to complain about his job, which I didn't mind, we all need to complain once in awhile. What I minded was, I haven't seen him in almost 2 weeks. He says he's been working more and has close to no time to do anything (what else is new), except I saw him the other day (of course the day I had other plans). And of course he calls me after he's home, so he won't be stopping by, but doesn't everyone have to eat breakfast, what's so hard about picking me up to go to breakfast after he gets off in the morning?
On August 26th (1 month ago, almost) I signed up to be part of the ISU alumni association, they sent me an email saying they'd send me a welcome packet and it would be here in 3-4 weeks. It's been 4 weeks, so I called them today, and they said, they do membership cards on Mondays, that next Monday was Labor Day, so they did it on Tuesday and they're waiting to get it back from where ever it goes. What's so hard about sending an email to tell me that? Is it that hard, apparently so, because I never received the other email telling my ID # to access stuff online, that's part of the communications dept, which is not who I was talking to on the phone.
And there's road construction pretty much everywhere right now, most of our major roads are somewhat blocked off and it's hell to get around.
Also, this weekend I have planned. Tomorrow, me and mom are going to an antique sale, and I hope I can convince her to go to another one, only it's supposed to rain tomorrow. Both sales are indoors, but you know some people don't like to go out in the rain. Sunday, my mom, aunt and I are supposed to go to a art show, hopefully that will work out fine as well. Also, I should have some great purchases to show you all.
Am I the only one who hates when people don't have an email to respond to when they post comments? Now, I love comments, don't get me wrong, but if you're going to ask a question in your comment, I should be able to just hit reply and type a response. Seems like all the comments with questions are no-replies. It's kinda annoying, especially since my computer hates blogger, so when I go to my blog to respond, it disconnects from the internet, then I have to wait for it to reconnect.
I think that's the end of my ranting, I'll let you know later.

Halloween Giveaway

I think it's time for a giveaway, so here's what's up for grabs:
Cellophane Halloween Bags
3 Cupcake Boxes
100 Mini Cupcake Cups
A tiny Halloween Bag
A Bobble Head Witch

Here's a close-up of the witch and tiny bag:
The witch had a broom in her left hand (or I'm guessing it was a broom), but it was broken when I got it.

I won the Halloween bags, cupcake boxes, and cupcake liners in a giveaway, but I have use for them, so I thought I'd pass them on to someone who celebrates Halloween (or at least more than me). I'm also planning on sending some Halloween stamped images your way as well.

Rules:
Leave a comment on THIS post by October 19th.
Open to Everyone.

I will pick a winner on October 20th, hopefully that will give the package enough time to get to you before Halloween.

Enjoy!

Pink Saturday

I've been wracking my brains on what to post for Pink Saturday this week, like I said before, I don't have a ton of pink items, but then I found some in my jewelry box. So, here they are:
This is a pink sapphire heart ring my boyfriend gave me for our 1st Valentine's Day together.
This is a pair of earrings I got in Hawaii this past January.
Here's a pair of (I'm guessing) faux pearl earrings I bought at a garage sale this year for $3.00.
And this is a pair of earrings, one of the ladies in my CollageATCs yahoo! group made me for my birthday this year. They are fabric rolled beads.

Head on over to Beverly's for more pink items.

Disappointed

That's how I felt about the 2 garage sales I went to today, one was a 3-family sale, and it seemed to have less than I've seen at single family sales, the 2nd one was held in conjunction with our downtown farmer's market, and they said it was going to be soo big, there were 6 vendors, one of them had prices like they were at an antique store (which is a very different market), and one was obviously jewelry that she had made (which was OK, I was expecting more random finds though)
So, here's what I bought:
A compact, that looks like
this on the outside, it's a shell with lots of clear rhinestones for $1.00
A close-up of
One of these two handkerchiefs that were $1.00 each, I thought the lacy one was very cute.
A bag of wooden winter pieces for 75 cents.
3 cards with buttons on them for 10 cents each.
2 books, Personal Hygiene written in 1913 and a Teachers Manual on How to Keep Order written in 1893. The personal hygiene book was $1.00, and the teachers manual was 10 cents.
Here's a picture of the two books above, plus 6 bingo cards that I got for 50 cents.
Everything but the bingo cards are from the 2nd sale. I also bought 2 loaves of bread, which are great tasting.
This month (Sept) is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and quite a few of the stores in our downtown district are giving deals to anyone who shows their library card. One of these stores was supposed to be the farmer's market, but when I showed mine, no one had any idea what it was for. That really turned me off in going back to them, they don't have that great of selection, but they obviously signed up to promote this, and then apparently forgot, one of the ladies even said, it could have been the other farmer's market (as we have one up north at the mall too), but when all the promotion places specifically say downtown farmer's market, that would be them.
I went to their winter cookie walk, where you fill a container (that turns out to be not very big) of cookies for $15.00, that was a huge disappointment as well, between the cookies not tasting very good, and the fact that even by picking up one of each cookie, I still had to buy 2 containers to get them all to fit (and the cookies weren't that big), it was very disappointing. I've gotten some weird looks and been ignored when I've gone there too, so I'm going to have to stop going there.
I love helping local businesses, but when people are rude, or don't follow through on things they signed up to do, I don't find them to be very good businesses (whether they're big or small). Enough of my rant, check out Debbie's blog for more garage salen.

Happy Pink Saturday!!!

I'm sorry, I'm late on this, I totally spaced off that it was Pink Saturday. No excuse, I guess in the future, I need to write my post right after replying to Beverly's email.

Anyway, I've been planning a post on some of the tiny teacups/saucers I have, so here are my few with pink in them:
I bought this at a garage sale, for 75 cents, it's a beautiful flower pattern with cute pink and blue flowers. It's about 5 1/2 inches in diameter. On the bottom, it says "Made in England, Bone China Rosina". I had no idea it was bone china, that's pretty cool.
And then there's this little guy, he's about 3 inches tall, and about 3 1/4 inches wide with the handle. It's got pink and yellow flowers all around it, and a cute golden handle, there's gold around the top and the bottom. Doesn't say anything on the bottom.
Please remember all the men and women who lost their lives on this day 9 years ago, stop a minute and think about them.
Please hop over to Beverly's to see more pink items.

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday

Welcome to WOYWW, I'm back from a few weeks hiatus, I was working a full-time job, standing for 8+ hours, and at the end of the day, I just wanted to zone out in front of the TV.
So, what's on my workdesk today? I'm actually packaging up swap packets for my yahoo! group.
Here are the packets for our October/Halloween swap:
And here are the packets for our September/Fall Swap (I'm a little late mailing these out this month, shhhh, don't tell)
If you have no idea what WOYWW is, head on over to Julia's blog, and snoop onto some other people's desks.
I love reading your comments.

Don't forget to come back later in the week for my Halloween giveaway!

Happy Pink Saturday!!

It's Pink Saturday again. Today I thought I'd share with you the last pink flowers on my lawn. I'm not quite sure what these are.
I must apologize for my lack of posting lately. I just haven't been that motivated to do anything. Since August 16th, I've been working at a job where I was standing for 8+ hours a day, so I was pretty tired at the end of the day, and just wanted to sit.
These are some impatiens and some other plant in a pot by the corner steps.
I've been pretty bummed out lately, today I think I realized it's partly because I haven't been outside much. I had finished my standing job, and ran a few errands, walking around getting groceries and items for one of my Yahoo! groups.
A further away shot of the impatiens and other plant:
The cool air and wind helped me alot, but then I came back and took a nap, and I've been pretty wiped out since.
I've been pretty depressed since I learned the store (another one of my jobs) will be closing soon, learned the actual date today, and the thought of having to find another job, plus my parents trying to help me, has not helped. I was extremely depressed yesterday, but I spent the whole day on the couch and watching TV.
Some of our roses in the corner garden (and that glorious pot hole in the background).
I'm hoping to get out and do a little walking, now that it's not so warm (or shouldn't be as fall is on it's way). That will definitely help my mood, not so much the job situation, but I need my mood to be better.
Another view of the roses on the corner:
So, hopefully visiting the Pink Saturday participants and going out to the All-American Weekend tomorrow will help.
The roses I like the best in our yard:
Another view of the roses:
I hope you enjoyed my Pink Saturday post, sorry about the not so exciting narrative, but hopefully the pictures were nice.
If you have no idea what Pink Saturday is, visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound.
